Infusion Service

The Oncology Outpatient Infusion Service was established to meet the needs of patients requiring short-term infusions, support therapies and chemotherapy administration. The unit is staffed by specially-trained registered nurses who assess, plan, provide and evaluate care for patients and their families.

All admissions are pre-scheduled with the nursing staff in the infusion service by the admitting physician. Patient registration is facilitated by the unit’s administrative assistant. Meals are served with choices from a menu and visitors are encouraged to stay with the patient. Supportive services, such as social work, nutrition, chaplains, mind-body and others are available to patients in the Infusion Center.

The medical director of the cancer program serves as the medical director of the Infusion Service with input into policies, procedures, planning and quality management. The infusion services cares for oncology and non-oncology patients, but has been established primarily as an oncology service with the following criteria established as a guide for physicians wishing to admit their patients to the unit:

  • Patients with cancer with a scheduled admission for same-day therapy or procedures including chemotherapy, blood transfusions, maintenance of oncology devices and hydration.
  • Patients with conditions other than cancer who are in need of same-day treatments, such as infusions, antibiotic therapy, blood transfusions.

The Infusion Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
