Mountainside Hospital has two full service libraries open to hospital employees, affiliated physicians, patients, their families, and the general public. The libraries are staffed by professional medical librarians and library assistants.

Access Policy

Mountainside Hospital libraries are closed on weekends and major holidays. Any physician or employee can gain access to the Assmann Health Sciences Library by using their hospital ID card.

The libraries are open to the public during staffed hours.

Library Services

Our professional staff provides a full range of services to hospital employees, affiliated physicians, residents and medical students. These services include reference, circulation, computer databases searches, and interlibrary loans. The libraries also provide services to consumers, patients, their families and the public.

The libraries maintain current and comprehensive collections of medical resources, including textbooks, journals, and reference works. Online Health & Medical databases are available from any computer on site.

Books can be checked out during staffed hours. Patrons are allowed to borrow most materials for two (2) weeks. Journals and reference materials do no circulate.

Interlibrary Loan Service provides free materials not held in the library. Items can be mailed, faxed or emailed to the patron.

Computer Literature Searching can be provided by our staff on the day of the request. Physicians, employees, residents, and medical students may do their own searching from any computer in house.

What is CHARM?

The Consumer Health Awareness Resources at Mountainside (CHARM) provides health information to patients, their families, and caregivers. Upon request the medical librarian will research and deliver information.

  • Healthy Lifestyles
  • Clinical Trials

Information is gathered from  authoritative medical databases and websites and delivered to consumers via e-mail, US mail, or fax. Inpatients will have the requested information delivered to their hospital room.
